Manifestation-8.8 The Lion’s Gate Portal

We are just days from one of the most powerful days for manifestation portals of the year-The Lion’s Gate Portal. The symbolic lion’s jaw began to open on July 28 and fully closes again on August 12, however August 8 is considered to be the peak of its power. It is typically a day associated with manifesting dreams into reality or even a wishing well you may say.

Astronomically the Lion’s Gate Portal is the day when the Sun aligns with the Earth, Sirius, and Orion’s Belt. Sirius is considered to be the Alpha Star of the Canis Major Constellation, the brightest star in the sky associated with fame, wealth, and fortune. Astrologically considered to be the spiritual sun, the ancient Egyptians referred to it as the goddess Sopdet. The rising of it, 8.8, would bring the annual flooding of the Nile, the beginning of the harvest and wealth of the land. It was linked to fertility, abundance, and prosperity, which is why modern astrology continues to associate this day with similar themes in everyday life.

Almost everyone I know who knows anything about astrology is setting aside special time this Thursday to “manifest” and ask for what they are desiring. Typically I am hopping on this bandwagon with fervor, purchasing a new journal to write my intentions or carefully curated ritual to take a drink from the metaphorical wishing well. This year the meaning of the Lion’s Gate Portal and the potency is hitting me differently. I am a history buff and diving deeper into the roots of these astrological traditions gave me a different perspective that I would love to offer.

I have been lucky enough to have a mix of Eastern and Western traditions and philosophies. I grew up following a spiritual master, Meher Baba, who taught that the pursuit of happiness is only achieved through service to others, surrendurance to the will of God, and self effacement. I have traveled to India 13 times and had the privilege of seeing how these philosophies are actually practiced in daily life. With all that being said, I have lived my life in the West and of course, hold the principles of achievement and productivity in high regard, as anyone does who is integrated into a society where that is the sole focus. What I have observed is that the common day “wellness or spiritual” world has chosen to take some of the ideals of manifestation, spirituality, and mysticism from the East, and marry them with the Western desire for personal achievement, “happiness”, and success.

Now while I do believe we need to do our best to make the most of our lives by doing our own personal excavation, taking accountability, and making choices that hopefully send us in a positive trajectory, I feel that we have perhaps missed the single most important part of what this day or the concept of “manifestation” in general is meant for. We are not here to manifest what “WE” want, we are here to get ourselves and ego enough out of the way so that Creator can live through us.

In pondering the ancient traditions of Egypt, this day was not spent asking for gifts or success, but in preparation for what the Earth was about to bestow upon them. The Egyptians trusted that the abundance the Earth, or the goddess Sopdet, would provide was far better than gold that they could ask for. What the goddess gave them required work and would perhaps even wipe out some of what they had built the year prior from the flooding. Spirituality is about the destruction of the false self, the self of desire, and resurrection of the Spirit. We can have what we want or we can have what the Soul wants, but it is impossible to have both. This day is a magical portal, but not because it is wishing well, but because it is a day of mass destruction if you open yourself up to it, the destruction of your false self in preparation of spiritual abundance and prosperity.

I hold n0 judgment for those who still want to write all the things they would like to receive or how they want their life to look in a year, because its such a fun practice and one that I have and most likely will participate in many times over. I just ask for you to consider that maybe you don’t know what prosperity and wealth really look like for you. We typically ask for things like a relationship, financial abundance, or a new life, but what if none of those things actually what is best for your Soul? Do you loose faith in the Lion’s Gate Portal and chalk astrology up to a farce? Perhaps, but what if it is just because you aren’t tapping in the power of the portal?

My prayer for the Lion’s Gate Portal:

Oh Lion’s Gate Portal allow me to desire nothing, but Love itself. I know not of what is best for me. I know only of what I desire. If it is your wish for my desires to come true so be it and if not I ask you to remove desires not meant for me. I trust in your wisdom and power to bring destruction and abundance that helps my Soul. Help me to remove myself enough for you to manifest through me. Use me as your instrument of Love and Truth. I surrender.
